Iran’s President-elect Raeisi receives more congratulatory messages

Congratulatory messages continue to pour in on Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi’s victory in Iran’s 2021 presidential election.

Raeisi was elected Iran’s eighth president after he garnered almost 62 percent of the votes in the June 18 election with a turnout of 48.8 percent. He will succeed President Hassan Rouhani, who has served two four-year terms in office.

North Korea

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the country’s leader Kim Jong-un had felicitated Raeisi in a note sent on June 20.

“On behalf of the government and people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, I extend my warm congratulations to you on your election as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Kim’s message read.

“Your election as President is a manifestation of Iranian people’s deep trust in and high expectation for you,” it added. “I take this opportunity to express my conviction that the friendly and cooperative relations between our two countries would further expand and develop, and wish you success in your responsible work for firmly defending the national sovereignty and building a powerful Iran.”

China

On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping offered his congratulations to Raeisi on his election win, describing their two countries as “comprehensive strategic partners.”

“I attach great importance to the development of China-Iran relations,” Xinhua news agency quoted Xi as saying.

The Chinese president also expressed his willingness to work with Raeisi in order to strengthen strategic communication, consolidate mutual political trust, and expand and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.

Algeria

Additionally, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune congratulated Raeisi on his victory in Iran’s presidential race in a message.

Serbia

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was the first European leader to extend his congratulations to Raeisi and wish him success as Iran’s new chief executive.

“The Republic of Serbia is still determined to cooperate with the Islamic Republic of Iran,”  he said in a message. “I am confident that relations between the two countries will develop in line with their mutual interests.”

Vucic further appreciated Iran for adopting principled positions in defense of the territorial integrity of countries under the UN Charter.

Vietnam’s President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Iraqi politician and former prime minister Haider al-Abadi, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani as well as OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo are other world leaders who have extended their congratulations to Raeisi.
