Iran’s Qalibaf Urges Action Against ‘Historic Genocide’

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has urged Muslims worldwide to foster unity and amplify the voices of oppressed Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who he claims are facing a genocide at the hands of Israel.

Following the Friday prayers at Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque, he delivered his remarks during the 19th high-level parliamentary meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States.

He stated that it is a collective Islamic responsibility to unite and prevent what he described as the global arrogance from perpetuating the most significant genocide in history.

The residents of Gaza, encompassing children, women, and patients, are urging for support and solidarity. They seek advocacy on behalf of the marginalized and hope not to be abandoned during these challenging times.

On October 7, 2023, Israel commenced military operations in Gaza. However, despite the ongoing campaign, the declared goals remain unfulfilled. The conflict has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 53,010 Palestinian lives, the majority of whom are women and children, and left over 119,998 individuals wounded.

The administration agreed to long-established negotiation terms proposed by the Hamas resistance organization as part of a Gaza ceasefire that commenced on January 19. However, on March 2, Israel breached the truce by halting humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Just over two weeks afterwards, the administration resumed its intensive bombing and redeployed forces to the blockaded region.

Qalibaf stated that Israel is obstructing the delivery of medical supplies to patients in Gaza. He added that in the region, Muslim children live in fear of being harmed by Israeli military actions, in addition to suffering from hunger, water shortages, and famine.

Today, it was observed that Muslims worldwide, along with freedom-seeking individuals, resonate with the call made by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, to oppose what he termed the “cancerous tumor” of Israel.

He further highlighted Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian population, stating that this backing would persist regardless of any external pressures or threats.
