Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri is set to travel to Bolivia to participate in a summit of the Group of 77 developing countries.

Jahangiri will depart Tehran for the Latin American country on Friday to take part in the 50th summit of the Group of 77 plus China slated for June 14 and 15 in Bolivia’s eastern city of Santa Cruz.

The visit comes at the official invitation of the Bolivian government.

The Iranian first vice president is scheduled to deliver a speech in the summit. He will also hold talks with Bolivian President Evo Morales on key issues of mutual interest.

Jahangiri is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several officials from the participating countries in the summit.

The Group of 77 was founded on June 15, 1964, by the “Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Developing Countries” issued at the conclusion of the United Nations (UN) Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The group is a coalition of developing nations, designed to promote its members’ collective economic interests and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the UN. The founding members of the organization were 77 countries; but, by November 2013, the organization’s member states expanded to 133.

The Group of 77 holds a one-year rotating presidency among Africa, Asia and Latin America. Bolivia holds the chairmanship for 2014.

Iran was the head of the group in 2001.
