Sheikh Zakzak Addresses Workshop on Education and Moral Training

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has organized a two-day workshop to observe the third annual Education and Moral Training Day as part of the on-going effort in encouraging the pursuit of knowledge and moral training.
With the theme, “Education Development and Moral Ethics for Societal Progress”, the occasion was organized by the Education and Ethics Forum of the Islamic Movement at the Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria, Nigeria.
Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, His Eminence, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) said, education is all encompassing in human endeavour collectively carried out by individual members of the society. He said, conduct of imparting knowledge and moral training is the responsibility of the government with the assistance of individuals and non-governmental organizations.
Sheikh Zakzaky traced the history of take over of missionary schools by the government in Nigeria, saying that in the present situation private schools are more qualitative than government schools because of neglect and lack of support. He decried the total disintegration of education in Nigeria that casts doubt on the future of graduates whom he described as “empty products”.
The Leader however said, people should contribute their quota in the little way the can to reverse the situation. “Education and knowledge to us is all encompassing, not ligation to his limited to material gain. The aim of education is to produce an upright person who knows the purpose of his existence, obligation to his Creator, the right of other people and all that”.
He added that, good moral conduct is the ultimate at which other things follow, “Our aim is to produce an individual with good moral conduct, having sound knowledge, not just to pass examination and receive certificate”. He however said, the reverse is the case in secular schools, and even in some Islamic schools, adding that their aims is just to acquire knowledge devoid of good oral conduct.
Sheikh Zakzaky then called for more commitment on the part of Fudiyyah schools in the pursuit of knowledge, which he said is prominent, saying that commitment is needed above good structures. He commended operators of Fuddiyah schools in the display of high level of commitment, despite the shortcomings.
He said though, system of administration of Fudiyyah schools differ in areas based on financial issues, the syllabus structure remains central. He urged stakeholders to assemble all the needed resources for enhanced productivity.
Sheikh Zakzaky (H) finally called on all stakeholder on the issue, including teachers, parents and others to put in their best in actualizing the desired objective.
Report of the activities of the Education and Moral Ethics Forum was presented by Malam Abdul-Rahman Yola, while a communiqué was issued.
