Iranian Commander Calls on Washington to Respect States’ Right of Autonomy

“At present, there are many groups and people in different states of America that are completely opposed to the policies of the country’s Federal Government,” Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Cultural Affairs and Defense Publicity Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said in Tehran on Sunday.

“And the people of different American states are entitled to the right to decide the way they want to administer their states, and the Federal Government shouldn’t rock the boat to block their move,” he added.

“Washington should give the right of autonomy to those states which are willing to separate from the US,” Jazayeri reiterated.

According to a new survey, the majority of Americans believe President Obama is too weak on foreign policy and national security issues, and they fear that US global power and prestige are in decline.

According to a December poll by the Pew Research Center, the survey finds that 70 percent of respondents say the United States is less respected by other countries than in the past, a finding that matches the 71 percent level reached in May 2008 during former President George W. Bush’s second term.

Support for US global engagement has dropped to a historic low, with 52 percent saying the United States should “mind its own business internationally.”
