US-led airstrike kills 3 civilians in eastern Afghanistan

At least three Afghan civilians have been killed in a US-led airstrike in eastern Logar Province, Press TV reports.

Provincial officials said on Tuesday that all victims of the air raid were adolescent Afghans.

NATO has not yet commented on the raid, but according to witnesses, the victims were playing outside when they came under fire from the US-led chopper.

The attack was carried out on the same day that President Hamid Karzai renewed his call on US-led forces to halt air raids on Afghans’ homes.

Afghan government has repeatedly warned NATO forces in the country to stop airstrikes against residential areas.

Washington claims that its airstrikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.

Civilian casualties caused by foreign forces have been a major source of tension between Kabul and Washington.

The US-led war in Afghanistan, which has caused record-high civilian and military casualties, has become the longest military conflict in the American history.
