Bombs tear through coffee shops in Iraq; 22 dead

A series of bombings targeting football fans has hit coffee shops in Baghdad and towns around the Iraqi capital, killing at least 22 people and injuring dozens of others.

All of the deadly incidents occurred late on Thursday.
In north and south Baghdad, two bomb blasts killed eight people in the coffee shops where scores of young men had gathered to watch a soccer match between Real Madrid and Barcelona.
In the city of Baquba, some 50 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, two other bombings killed 10 football fans in cafés.
In the town of Jbela, about 65 kilometers south of the capital, a bomb detonated in a café, leaving three people dead.
And in Iskandariya, 40 kilometers south of Baghdad, a bomb attached to a car exploded, killing a civilian.
The incidents are the latest in a string of attacks across Iraq that have left more than 2,000 people dead since the beginning of April.
On June 24, at least 42 people were killed and dozens injured in ten car bomb attacks.
On June 23, eleven people were killed in several attacks, a day after 24 others, mostly Shia Muslims, were killed and many others injured.
On June 19, thirty-one people were killed in two coordinated bomb attacks inside and near a Shia mosque in Baghdad.
And on June 16, fifty-one people lost their lives and many others were injured in a spate of attacks across the country.
