A large majority of Britons do not trust Prime Minister David Cameron to cut public spending without harming the country’s vital services, a poll shows.

The ComRes survey published by The Independent on Monday showed 67 percent of respondents have no trust in Cameron to slash spending without negatively affecting services such as the National Health Service.

The poll also shows that the exact same portion do not trust Labour Party leader Ed Miliband.

In addition, the survey showed that 66 percent of Britons are against Chancellor George Osborne’s plan to cut public spending by a further 30 billion pounds in a bid to clear the country’s deficit.

The poll came as the conservative chancellor published his Charter for Budget Responsibility, which aims to eliminate the deficit on day-to-day spending on services by the fiscal year 2017-2018.

The Conservative plans would mean that an extra 30 billion pounds of savings would need to be imposed in order to balance the nation’s books.

Britain’s current Tory-led Coalition government launched austerity measures when it came to power in 2010 in a bid to tackle the country’s mounting debt and sluggish growth, but the policies have sparked opposition and public protests in recent years.
