Iraqi armed forces have killed at least four militants from the al-Qaeda-linked group of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the country’s Anbar Province as the army continues its fight against terrorists.

Five other ISIL militants were also arrested during the operation carried out by the government forces in south of Anbar’s capital, Ramadi.

Over the past weeks, Anbar has been the scene of deadly clashes between Iraqi security forces and the al-Qaeda-linked ISIL militants.

Violence erupted in the western province on December 30, 2013, when the army removed an anti-government camp in the city of Ramadi.

Iraqi authorities said the camp had been used as “headquarters for the leadership of al-Qaeda.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maleki has blamed “diabolical” and “treacherous” Arab countries for the recent rise in violence in his country, saying, “Iraq is the target for some countries that are backing terrorism, and backing evil.”

Iraq is now experiencing its worst cycle of violence since 2008.

According to authorities, in the latest wave of attacks, six people were killed across the Arab country on Sunday.

Three car bombs went off simultaneously in separate residential neighborhoods, in the city of Kirkuk, killing four people and wounding 14 others.

Police and medical officials also said that gunmen killed a former army officer and his wife in a drive-by shooting in Baghdad’s northeastern suburbs.

Meanwhile, police discovered three bodies in different areas of Baghdad. They were killed by what appeared to be close-range gunshots.
