Iraqi Army scores major victory against ISIS at the Syrian border
The Iraqi Army continued its advance along the vast Syrian border on Wednesday night, capturing the strategic Al-Walid border-crossing in the Al-Anbar Governorate.
The Iraqi Army began their assault during the wee hours on Wednesday, striking the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) defensive positions at the Al-Walid border-crossing.
Following a fierce battle that raged for several hours, the Iraqi Army was able to liberate the border-crossing and expel the remaining Islamic State terrorists from this deserted area near Syria’s Sweida Governorate.
The Al-Walid border-crossing was used by the Islamic State to transport oil and weapons to their comrades in Syria; its capture on Wednesday has helped both the Iraqi and Syrian governments to tighten the security on the border.
