
“Iran seeks all-out mutual cooperation with Iraq on the basis of the interests of the two nations, IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday.
The president made the remarks in a meeting with Vice president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Nechirvan Barzani.
During the meeting, Mr. Ahmadinejad pointed to the historical and cultural ties and common interests between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq, adding, “An advanced and secured Iraq is in the interest of Iran and the region.”
“The future belongs to our nations and countries. If the regional nations become united, the enemies could not do any harm to us,” Ahmadinejad added.
“The common enemies of Iran and Iraq that plunder the region’s interests are seeking to make the region insecure, so we should be vigilant against such plots,” President Ahmadinejad reiterated.
He then pointed to latest developments in Libya and said,” The arrogant powers intend to supply the cost of their dominance over the region by the wealth and manpower of the regional countries.”
Iraqi Nechirvan Barzani for his part briefed the president on the the situation in Iraq and acknowledged the efforts made by the Islamic Republic of Iran for establishment of security and stability in Iraq.
“We consider security of the Islamic Republic of Iran as Iraq’s and believe that we should solve the regional difficulties through bilateral cooperation and unanimity,” Barzani added.
He said Iraq will oppose any moves that undermine the security of Iran.
Barzani also pointed to the humanitarian aid of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraqi Kurds and said,” The Iraqi people especially the Kurds acknowledge Iran’s humanitarian aid.”
