Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari on Wednesday extended his condolences to Pakistan’s Army Commander General Raheel Sharif on the massacre of over 130 school children in the city of Peshawar yesterday.
“I extend my condolences to you, the nation and the friendly and brotherly country of Pakistan over the sorrowful and regretful hostage-taking incident and terrorist attack on students and teachers in Peshawar which resulted in the martyrdom of a (large) number of oppressed and innocent Pakistani citizens,” General Jafari said in his message to General Sharif.

The IRGC commander expressed his sympathy for the bereaved families of the victims of the tragic incident.

“It goes without saying that fighting terrorism and violence in different parts of the world, specially in the Muslim countries, needs all-out and serious will to effectively condemn and confront the creators of terror and terrorism as well as the governments that support inhumane crimes, which is now also a top priority and inevitable need of the international bodies and circles,” the IRGC top commander said in his message.

He further expressed the hope that Muslim nations’ prioneering role in this regard would also defuse the plots which have been hatched by the enemies to portray a violent image of Islam.

On Tuesday, witnesses described how gunmen went from classroom to classroom, shooting children, after a huge blast shook the Army Public School.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack as retaliation for a major military offensive in the region, saying militants had been ordered to shoot older students.

Police said that a bloody Taliban raid on an army-run school in Northwest Pakistan ended with all six attackers dead.

The assault on the school in the city of Peshawar killed at least 130 people, most of them students, according to officials.

“The combat operation is over, the security personnel are carrying out clearance operation and hopefully they will clear the building in a while,” Police Official Abdullah Khan said.

“Dead bodies of six terrorists have been found in the building.”

Chief Army Spokesman General Asim Bajwa said on Twitter that explosive devices planted in school buildings by the militants were slowing clearance efforts.
