IRGC Dismantles Terrorist Cell in Khuzestan Province

13930118000500_PhotoIThe Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday that it has disbanded a terrorist cell which planned to conduct sabotage missions in various parts of Iran.
According tothe IRGC’s public relations, members of a terrorist team affiliated to the foreign spy agencies have been arrested in Southern Khuzestan province.

“After receiving tips about the plans of the foreign spying agencies for organizing and dispatching a team to conduct terrorist and sabotage acts in Iran, the members of a terrorist cell were arrested upon their arrival in Iran in a rapid operation by IRGC’s intelligence forces in Khuzestan province, which came as the result of a series of complicated intelligence, surveillance, monitoring and control operations outside the borders of Iran,” it said.

The terrorists planned to carry out bombings and sabotage operations in some sensitive places and centers and also conduct surveillance and terror operations to spread an atmosphere of intimidation and insecurity in the region under the support of the spy agencies of the enemies of the Iranian nation.

The IRGC announcement further pointed out that several ready-for-explosion consignments, attachable and roadside bombs and communication terminals equipped with internet encription devices and equipment have been seized from the terrorists.

“The apprehended terrorists have confessed to their links to the spy agencies of Iran’s enemies,” the IRGC mentioned.

Last June, the Iranian intelligence ministry announced that it has disbanded a terrorist cell tasked with conducting sabotage activities concurrent with June 14 presidential election in Iran.

In a statement released at the time, the intelligence ministry said it has managed to identify and arrest all members of the terrorist cell after finding traces and gathering accurate information about the cell’s activities and mission.

The statement further mentioned that the head of the terrorist cell had been recruited by the spy agency of an Arab country and later contacted the Israeli spy agency Mossad after travelling to Israel.

After receiving the needed intelligence and military trainings in Israel, the head of the terrorist cell has received a list of actions from Mossad officers to conduct espionage and terrorist activities in Iran, the statement said.

It further said that the prime suspect had later formed a 12-member team to conduct sabotage and terrorist activities in Iran, specially during the election day on June 14, 2013.
