IRGC Ground Force launches military drill in SW Iran

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force has launched a drill in southwestern Iran at the onset of the Islamic Revolution’s 43rd year.

Speaking at the beginning of the exercise on Thursday, IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said the maneuver, codenamed the Great Prophet 16, involves different drone, aviation, armor, ranger, artillery and special force units.

It is aimed at the objective and field evaluation of the elite force’s latest achievements and capabilities as well as its operational strength and combat and defense equipment, he added.

The commander also expressed the IRGC Ground Force’s full readiness to counter any possible threats in addition to the task of maintaining security in the country’s northwest, west, southeast and east.

In recent months, Iran’s Armed Forces have held a series of drills amid heightened tensions with the US under former president Donald Trump.

Tehran said the exercises served as a warning message to the enemies against any act of aggression against the Islamic Republic.
