Iran asserts ‘israel’s’ impunity regarding genocide in Gaza is a responsibility shared by the international community

As a ceasefire agreement is poised to be implemented in Gaza, Iran has urged the global community to hold Israel responsible for its actions, calling for an end to what it describes as the impunity surrounding "war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide" allegedly perpetrated by the regime over the last 16 months.

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, conveyed his remarks via a post on his X account on Saturday, marking the observance of the “Day of Gaza, Symbol of Resistance.”

In a statement, Baghaei emphasized the international community’s obligation under international law and humanitarian principles to combat the unchecked actions of the occupying regime, which he accuses of consistently committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

He stated that Iran honors the memory of the innocent Palestinian women, children, and men who have lost their lives over the past 16 months due to what he described as the “colonial erasure” efforts by the Israeli occupying forces.

He also honored the courageous resistance of the people of Gaza in the face of what he described as Israel’s genocidal and apartheid policies.

The Iranian spokesperson underscored that the pursuit of self-determination and liberation from colonial rule and apartheid are fundamental human rights protected under international law.

In the early hours of Saturday, the Israeli cabinet approved a ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas, following over 460 days of intense conflict. The prolonged hostilities have resulted in the loss of 46,899 Palestinian lives, predominantly affecting women and children.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that an agreement to cease hostilities with Hamas is scheduled to take effect on Sunday.

A recently proposed agreement aims to initiate a six-week ceasefire, which has the potential to ultimately halt the devastating military campaign.

Hamas has endorsed the recent agreement, praising Palestinian fighters and civilians for their resilience against what they describe as the regime’s aggression, and for thwarting its attempts to accomplish its objectives during the conflict.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry expressed approval of the recently established ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip. The ministry also called for legal action against Israeli officials, citing serious allegations of crimes committed during the hostilities in Gaza.
