Bardawil: Abbas stopped the reconciliation and Hamas is ready for debate

Hamas leader Dr. Salah Bardawil held the Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas “personally” responsible for the failure of the reconciliation process, to comply with “American conditions.”

Bardawil said that Hamas is ready for a debate with Saeb Erekat, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), adding that Hamas has the argument and evidence proving the stability of its position.

The Hamas leader said in remarks to Quds Press on Friday that his movement is committed to the reconciliation, which “no longer needs dialogue, but rather needs the implementation of what has been agreed upon between the two parties,” as he said.

“Hamas movement confirms that the Palestinian reconciliation was suspended by the decision of Abbas due to the U.S. intervention. Saeb Erekat had earlier confirmed that Washington had asked them to stop the reconciliation,” Dr. Salah Bardawil asserted.

Regarding Erekat’s call for a debate with Hamas leaders, Bardawil described it as “a naive media maneuver” that aims to cover up the abuses of PA against members of Hamas in the West Bank and the concessions it has been offering every day in the international forums.

Saeb Erekat had called on the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal to put an end to what he called “lies and statements of some Hamas leaders regarding Abbas’s rejection of Erdogan’s visit to the Gaza Strip;” as he claimed.
