ISIS almost kicked out of Mosul as the Iraqi Army cuts off supply road to Tal Afar

The Iraqi Armed Forces are going all in on Mosul after government troops secured a number of important advances in and around the city on Tuesday.

This evening, the 15th Brigade of the Iraqi Army’s 9th Division seized the Mosul Water Plant, northwest of the city, just days after taking control of the main power station.

In addition, Iraqi troops also liberated the adjacent Al-Damreji Al-Saggira village, thus securing a section of the Tigris River, and severing ISIS’ last supply route between Tal Afar and Mosul through fire control over the main road between the two northern cities.

This serves to isolate ISIS militants even further and disrupt their maneuvering abilities.

Remarkably, two Ezidi (Yazidi) girls managed to escape ISIS captivity in the contested Al-Manun district and broke down in tears as they stumbled upon government troops. One girl was 25 while the other was just 6 years old.

Meanwhile, skirmishes also continued on the outskirts of Tal Afar. Nearby, the Iraqi ‘Popular Mobilization Units’ (PMU) annihilated three ISIS militants while the Iraqi Air Force was heavily present above the battlefield.

The Syrian Government has given the Iraqi Air Force the green light to conduct airstrikes inside Syria; thus far, areal sorties have been conducted at both Deir Ezzor and Abu Kamal based off Syrian intelligence while some reports suggest Iraqi warplanes could reach as far as Palmyra.

Due to recent advances, the Iraqi Armed Forces have taken control of roughly 75% of Mosul. Nevertheless, ISIS combattants remain bogged down in the northwestern part of the city, gradually retreating while laying behind a trail of booby traps.
