Islamic higher council asks Morsi to intervene and save life of Issawi

Dr. Salah Sultan, the secretary general of the higher council for Islamic affairs affiliated with the Egyptian ministry of Awkaf, has asked president Mohammed Morsi to intervene and save the life of Palestinian hunger striker Samer Al-Issawi.

Sultan said in a statement on Wednesday that Morsi in his capacity as current chairman of the Organization of Islamic Conference should have a stand regarding the issue of the Palestinian administrative detainee.

He added that the Arab League, the UN, civil organizations, and human rights groups should pressure Israel into halting its violations against the Palestinian people in general and prisoners in particular.

He said that all those organizations should also be concerned with the issue of Issawi who has been on hunger strike for 200 days and faces the possibility of dying in captivity.
