London police patrol Islamic sites after suspected arson attacks

Following the arson attack on an Islamic school in London, the Metropolitan Police has announced “vulnerable sites” in the city will be patrolled round-the-clock by uniformed police officers.

The Darul Uloom Islamic boarding school at Chislehurst was “set alight by intruders” on Saturday night while 128 children and staff were inside the building.

The fire almost engulfed the building smoke-poisoning two boys and damaging 10 percent of the schools.

The incident was the second “suspected arson attack” on Islamic centers in less than a week.

In the early hours on Wednesday, police and firefighters were called to a serious fire at the Somali Bravanese Welfare Association in north London.

The fire, now being investigated as an arson attack by the far-right group the English Defense League, completely wrecked the building of the cultural center.

The investigation was launched after the discovery of graffiti reading “EDL” (English Defense League) at the site.

“The Met is now investigating suspicious fires at two locations within the Islamic community which have happened in the past few days. Fortunately no one has been hurt, but we know that fires can often prove fatal,” Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe said.

“In all boroughs across London, there is an increased police presence around locations that might be at risk. We will maintain a 24/7 guard of uniformed officers at sites we consider to be at greatest risk,” he added.

Several British mosques have been attacked since a soldier was killed in Woolwich area of London last month.
