Israel nuclear sites within Iran reach

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces says Israel’s nuclear sites are within reach of the country’s military equipment, but rejects the likelihood of an attack on them.

Speaking to Mehr news agency, Major General Hassan Firouzabadi warned against any act of aggression against Iran, adding that “Iranian soldiers with the help of state-of-the-art military equipment and effective tactics” will deliver a severe blow to the enemy.

When asked about the Islamic Republic’s capability to target Israeli nuclear sites, the top Iranian military commander said, “There is no Israeli location that is not within reach of our modern equipment.”

However, he added, “We hope that there would be no need [for us] to hit Israel’s nuclear plant.”

“A nuclear war is not in the interest of any country; we will respond to them through different methods,” Firouzabadi explained.

Located in the Negev desert, Israel’s controversial Dimona reactor is widely believed to house around 300 nuclear warheads.

The top Iranian general went further to address threats against Iran by his American counterpart Admiral Mike Mullen, saying, “Even Michael Mullen himself has intelligence and knows that facing Iran is not in the interest of the US and the Zionists.”

The remarks come as Israel and its Western allies accuse Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program and have repeatedly threatened Tehran with an attack on its nuclear facilities.

Iran, however, rejects the allegation, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the country is entitled to make use of a peaceful nuclear program.
