A political analyst says Israel is seeking to entangle the United States in yet another war in the Middle East, Press TV reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “wants the US to come to Israel’s aid in this conflict (war on Gaza) and that way get the US bogged down in a greater war in the Middle East,” Colin Cavell, an author and lecturer, said in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

The Israeli regime is continuing with its airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip while Palestinians are responding by firing a barrage of rockets into Israel.

“Israel is trying to provoke the United States to get involved just like they tried…along with Saudi Arabia to get the United States involved in a war with Syria,” he added.
Syria has been experiencing deadly crisis since March 2011. The West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are giving financial and military support to the militants.

Since July 8, Israeli warplanes have struck more than 1,300 targets across Gaza, which is home to around 1.8 million Palestinians. According to latest figures, released by the Palestinian Health Ministry, the strikes have so far claimed the lives of 220 with more than 1,600 others injured.

The UN agencies also say women and children make up a sizeable number of Palestinian fatalities caused by Israeli attacks on the besieged region.

Israel has blockaded Gaza since 2007, denying the Palestinian people their basic rights such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education. The coastal sliver often faces electricity and fuel shortages.
