Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon killed 4 civilian, occurring despite a ceasefire being in place

In a recent breach of the tenuous ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, Israeli military aircraft conducted a series of airstrikes in the southern region of the country, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals.

According to a report from Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center under the Ministry of Public Health, an Israeli airstrike on Thursday targeted a vehicle in Yohmar al-Shaqif, located in the Nabatieh governorate, resulting in three fatalities.

The Lebanese National News Agency has reported that an Israeli drone strike in the town of Maaroub, located in Lebanon’s Tyre district, has resulted in the death of one Lebanese individual and the injury of another. The attack involved a guided missile targeting a vehicle.

A Lebanese security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that a drone launched an air-to-ground missile at a civilian vehicle, resulting in the vehicle catching fire.

The individual identified as Hassan Naamah Sabra, a Hezbollah military commander originating from the town of al-Qantara in southern Lebanon, was the victim in the incident. Civil defense teams were responsible for transporting his body to a hospital in the city of Tyre, according to confirmed sources.

In an overnight operation, the Israeli Defense Forces reported that the Israeli Air Force conducted a strike resulting in the death of Ahmad Adnan Bajjiga, a battalion commander in Hezbollah’s Radwan Force. The attack targeted the southern Lebanese town of Derdghaiya, according to a statement released by the military.

The military has alleged that Bajjiga orchestrated and led a series of attacks targeting Israeli settlers and troops, with incidents occurring in recent months.

As of now, there has been no official statement or confirmation from Lebanese authorities regarding the claims made by Israel.

Earlier on Thursday, Israeli artillery forces launched an attack on the Dabsh neighborhood, situated to the east of Yohmar al-Shaqif. A total of six shells were reported to have struck the designated area.

Following a significant period of conflict lasting nearly 14 months, during which it incurred considerable losses and failed to meet its objectives in an offensive against Lebanon, Israel consented to a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah. The cessation of hostilities came into effect on November 27.

Since the implementation of the agreement, occupying forces have engaged in a series of attacks on Lebanon, contravening the ceasefire terms. These operations include airstrikes targeting various locations within the Arab nation.

On January 27, Lebanon announced its intention to extend the current ceasefire with Israel through to February 18.

Following the expiration of the February 18 deadline, Israel continues to maintain its presence in five key territories in southern Lebanon. These territories are Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all of which are situated near the border.

Lebanon has condemned the continuing presence of Israeli military forces, describing it as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and the scheduled timeline for withdrawal. Senior officials in Beirut have affirmed their resolve to utilize “all necessary measures” to remove the occupying troops from Lebanese territory.
