Iran says Israeli atrocities over the past six decades are the result of “leniency” with the Tel Aviv regime.
The remark was made by Iran’s Deputy Ambassador to the UN Gholam Hossein Dehqani during a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
The Iranian diplomat, who was speaking on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), said that Israel’s attacks against Gazans are a clear example of the collective punishment of civilians and a blatant violation of international law.
Iran holds the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement.
He strongly condemned Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians and called on the international community to take immediate action to send relief aid to the people in the blockaded enclave.
Israeli crimes have gone unpunished due to the UN Security Council’s inaction to stop the regime’s brutalities, Dehqani said, urging the international body to live up to its commitments and take action to guarantee the implementation of international law.
He called on the UN Security Council to take swift action to stop Israel’s ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip and help lift the blockade on the enclave.
At least 642 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,000 others injured since Israel unleashed its offensive on the coastal sliver on July 8.
This comes as the Gaza Strip has been under Israel’s all-out land, aerial and naval blockade since June 2007.
