Italian peace activists slam Western meddling in Syria’s internal affairs

Hundreds of Italian peace activists have staged a rally to protest against continued Western interference in Syria’s domestic affairs, and the recent so-called ‘Friends of Syria’ conference.

According to Press TV, the demonstration, organized by the No War Rome peace group, was held in front of the tomb of unknown soldiers in Rome on Thursday.
Demonstrators slammed the United States and its allies for supporting armed opposition groups fighting the Syrian government and criticized the West for providing Syrian rebels with weapons.
Protesters called on the Italian government and other NATO members to avoid meddling in Syria’s internal affairs. They said such measures would only escalate the situation in Syria.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
