Jalili: Iraq’s Progress Depends on Unity, Cooperation among All Groups

A1136275 (1) Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili in a meeting with senior member of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Adel Abdul-Mahdi underscored that all Iraqi groups should unite and cooperate to pave the ground for their country’s progress and development.

During the meeting in Tehran on Thursday, Jalili said that progress and development in Iraq would only be materialized through unity and cooperation of all political groups of that country.

He said that Iraq currently has the potential to stabilize its position among Arab and Muslim countries.

Jalili also voiced Iran’s readiness to boost strategic cooperation with Iraq.

The Iraqi official, for his part, praised Iran’s significant role in resolving regional issues.

Referring to friendly ties between the two capitals, the Iraqi diplomat hoped that Tehran would share its experiences with Iraq on ways to achieve progress.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, in 2003.

Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in expanding their ties, in economic fields in particular.
