Judiciary chief dismisses Iran sanctions

Iran’s Judiciary chief says the mass demonstrations held on Quds Day prove that the Iranian nation can rise to any challenge, including Western sanctions.

Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani said Sunday that the Quds Day demonstrations sent a clear message to the “enemies of Islam” that they can “never realize their evil objectives in Iran or the Muslim world.”

Referring to the Quds Day turnout, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani said, “As long as the Iranian nation is this involved [in current affairs]…anti-Iran sanctions will be ineffective,” ISNA reported.

On June 9, the UN Security Council imposed a Washington-drafted sanctions resolution against Iran’s financial and military sectors over Western allegations that Tehran is pursuing a military nuclear program.

The United States and the European Union have since adopted unilateral sanctions targeting the energy-rich country’s oil and gas industry.

Iran rejects the Western charges, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty it has the right to use peaceful nuclear technology.

The last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan was named the International Quds Day by the founder of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini in 1980.

Each year mass demonstrations are held on this day in support of the Palestinian nation and in condemnation of the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime.
