Japan crossed military danger line: North Korea

n00290582-bNorth Korea has accused Japan of crossing the “danger line,” a day after Tokyo unveiled its largest warship since World War II.
Japan crossed military danger line: North Korea On Wednesday, North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) warned that Japan was following a militarization program that was already a serious threat.

“This is nothing but a broad hoax by Japan to justify its moves to turn it into a military giant which have gone beyond the danger line,” KCNA said.

The news agency made reference to a paper published last month by Japan’s defense ministry, stressing an urgency to strengthen forces needed to protect Japanese territories.

On August 6, Japan unveiled its flat-top USD 1.2 billion helicopter carrier, called “Izumo.”

The KCNA commentary further accused Japan of trying to divert attention from efforts it was making to ditch its pacifist constitution by its “loudmouth” warnings of a threat from North Korea.

Japan’s military is barred from taking aggressive actions, and any other path would require a change to its constitution.

In its paper, Japan’s defense ministry had called for a “comprehensive containment capability” to counter ballistic missile threats from North Korea.

“Japan would be well advised to behave with reason, aware that to do so would be beneficial to its security,” the North Korean news agency added.

“Japan’s assertions are too unreasonable and illogical to justify its sinister aim.”

Tokyo says the warship, designed to carry as many as 14 helicopters, is to be used in national defense, particularly in anti-submarine warfare, as well as in border area surveillance missions.

Japan unveiled its warship amid maritime skirmishes with China.

Tokyo’s military is one of the most well-funded and well-equipped militaries in the world.
