Arbaeen ceremony, a manifest of unity in Kurdistan
Arbaeen ceremony was marked in the Sunni inhabited Province of Kurdistan to stress the loyalty of Sunni Muslims to the household of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and highlight unity of Iranian people from different denominations.

Mourning ceremonies for Arbaeen, 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was held across Kurdistan Province, participated by Shia and Sunni communities, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Prominent religious figures and scholars from both denominations made speeches on the high character of Imam Hussein (AS) and the events of Karbala.

Muslim people of Kurdistan have constantly paid tribute to the household of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and perform different religious programs in the mourning months of Muharram and Safar.

Similar to the Shia community in Iran, Sunni Muslims in the western Province of Kurdistan hold different religious ceremonies and avoid weddings or feasts.

Kurdistan is one of the unique areas in Iran that sets a role model for coexistence of Shia and Sunni who respect the particular religious ceremonies of each other.

Muharram and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), third Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is a particular example of unified feelings of the Shia and Sunni community for Ahlul Bayt (AS) when various mourning gatherings and ceremonies are held for the occasion.
