Syrian commandos capture 5 heights overlooking Turkey

On Wednesday evening in the Latakia Governorate’s northeastern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade (commandos) – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Syrian Marines – captured 5 heights overlooking the Turkish border after a violent battle with Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham.

According to a battlefield correspondent in the Latakia Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces imposed full control over the heights of Katf Al-Zeitounah, Barzat Al-Tahtani, Daher Kafr Sindu, Tal Ghawayrat, and Jabal Abu ‘Ali, killing several enemy combatants during this latest military operation in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains).

With their latest gains in northeastern Latakia, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies are on the verge of seizing the entire Latakia-Turkey border, including the dense Firnilak Forests that are spread across southern Turkey and the small parcel of territory on Jabal Al-Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains) that is under rebel control. Meanwhile, to the southeast of the Turkish border, another unit from the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade is steadily advancing towards the strategic town of Kabani, which overlooks the Idlib Governorate’s western countryside.

Once Kabani is captured by the Syrian Armed Forces, they will be able to launch an assault on Al-Sirmaniyah, which will ultimately lead to the rebel stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour.
