Kashmir Quds Day Rally Organizers and Participants Charged Under Controversial Law

Authorities in the Indian-administered region of Kashmir have taken legal action against individuals organizing and participating in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The authorities have registered cases against these individuals, citing the need to uphold "law and order."

On Saturday, authorities in the predominantly Muslim region filed charges against the organizers and participants of the pro-Palestinian International Quds Day marches in Budgam District. The allegations include road obstruction and the promotion of what they have termed “objectionable slogans.”

Law enforcement authorities have lodged First Information Reports (FIRs) against the individuals in question following the allegations.

Charges have been filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against individuals accused of expressing support for Hezbollah, the resistance movement based in Lebanon.

Authorities reported that a march taking place in Sonpah Village, located in Budgam, led to disruptions by obstructing a roadway that connects the village to the Beerwah subdistrict.

The development occurred as public discontent surged in the area regarding Israel’s ongoing aggression in the West Asia region, supported by the United States. This includes what is described as a genocidal campaign in the Gaza Strip, resulting in significant loss of life.

In other parts of the region, pro-Palestinian rallies took place on the final Friday of the holy month of Ramadan. This day has been declared as the International Quds Day by the late founder of Iran’s Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.

The annual global event is conducted in the form of rallies to express solidarity with the Palestinian pursuit of liberation from Israeli occupation and aggression.

This year, millions globally, including those in Muslim-majority countries, participated in demonstrations to denounce the actions of the Israeli regime, characterized by widespread bloodshed and devastation. Protesters also criticized the United States for its unwavering military and political backing of these actions.

Regional resistance groups, notably Hezbollah, have been delivering substantial challenges to the Israeli military forces, highlighting its vulnerabilities.
