Iran Army holds anti-heliborne exercises

The Iranian Army Ground Forces have defeated hypothetical enemy’s heliborne operations on the second day of massive drills in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

Spokesman for the maneuvers code-named Ashoura, Brigadier General Ali Mehrabi, said on Tuesday that the military exercises were carried out in Dokhtar Borji zone sprawling over 70 square kilometers of land.

“The Army commandos courageously thwarted enemy’s heliborne operations and targeted its helicopters,” the general added.

The Army displays its tanks and drones during the two-day war games which conclude Tuesday night.

Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan Commander of the Army Ground Forces said a sniper, whose range exceeds 3 kilometers, has been successfully tested.

“During this drill, domestically developed arms equipped with the latest combat technology are tested,” he added.

Over the past few years, Iran has held several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

In November, Iran’s Army held jointly with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) six days of military drills in the east of the country.

The drills entailed the successful testing of an upgraded high-precision long-range S-200 ground-to-air defense system, and indigenous missile defense systems named Qader, Ya Zahra 3, Mersad 3 and Hawk.
