Syrian forces kill senior ISIL commander in Deir al-Zor

Syrian government forces have killed a high-profile ISIL militant commander in an operation in Syria’s eastern province of Deir al-Zor.

Syrian troopers carried out the special operation in the al-Omar oil field on the northern outskirts of the city of Mayadin, situated some 500 kilometers (310 miles) northeast of Damascus, on Saturday.

A senior militant, known by his nom de guerre Abu al-Taym al-Saudi, and 40 other extremists were killed in the army operations, Syria’s state-run television reported.
