Leader of the Islamic Ummah And Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei Encourages Iranian Nation to Double Attention to Book Reading

Leader of the Islamic Ummah And Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei stressed the importance of book reading in the promotion of the culture of the society, and called on the Iranian nation to devote a wider time span to reading different books.
“Despite recent the progresses made in the mass media and the newly-appeared communication systems, books will never be isolated and no advanced communication and cultural device can replace book,” Leader of the Islamic Ummah And Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei said, addressing a large number of librarians in Tehran on Wednesday.

Leader of the Islamic Ummah And Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei further expressed displeasure with the current conditions of book publishing and book reading in Iran, and underlined, “Book reading should become an everlasting habit of the people, specially the youth, and it should find an acceptable share in families’ goods consumption basket.”

Since the Islamic Revolution in Iran, people have growingly become interested in book reading. The Islamic Republic has also executed various plans to encourage the people to allocate more time to book reading.

Iran has been hosting an International Book Fair in Tehran every spring since a few years after the revolution.

Tehran has recently announced its readiness to publish books written in the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member countries.

ECO officials say book exchange is an important cultural activity with national benefits for all sides.
