Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that his government is set to respond effectively to terrorist groups operating across the violence-wracked country.

Premier Sharif said the government would take every step to bring peace and stability in the country to save the future generations.

“Without eliminating terrorism and extremism, we cannot place Pakistan on fast track of development,” Sharif said on Monday.

The premier made the remarks while chairing a high-level parliamentary party meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Islamabad.

The latest high-level meeting was held because of the recent series of deadly terrorist attacks in cities of Bannu, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Mastung and Karachi.

The developments come as series of bomb explosions and militant attacks have killed dozens of people, including several security personnel over the past five days.

Sharif has been an advocate of peace talks with the pro-Taliban militants since his election campaign, which ended in his May victory.

However, senior civilian and military officials have repeatedly said militants cannot “coerce” Islamabad into accepting their terms in the government-initiated peace process.

Sharif has also recently called for intense measures to tackle the problem. However, Sharif has not publicly announced a full-fledged military operation against Taliban militants in Pakistan.

Pakistani government has said it will use an all-out military action as a last resort to address the issues of extremism and militancy in the country.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war on terror.
