Ukraine talks kick off in Geneva

Western diplomats kicked off talks with representatives of Ukraine and Russia in Geneva on Thursday aimed at de-escalating the crisis between the two neighbors.

According to DPA, the morning sessions of the one-day crisis meeting started with bilateral discussions geared at finding a political solution to the Ukrainian conflict.
Later in the day, the foreign ministers of the US, Russia and Ukraine as well as European Union foreign policy chief are expected to gather to discuss the deteriorating crisis.
According to delegation circles, the Ukrainian side was to present proposals which would place a greater emphasis on the demands of Ukraineˈs Russian minority.
Furthermore, Kiev plans to show evidence that Moscow is behind the unrest and is to demand an end to armed attacks by pro-Russian separatists.
Meanwhile, Washington has warned that if the Geneva talks failed to yield results, Moscow would face additional sanctions.
