Letter to Morsi, ‘religious duty’: Velayati

Letter to Morsi
Advisor to the Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei says in writing letter to Morsi and other Egyptian officials, “we have fulfilled our religious duty.”
Ali Akbar Velayati pointed to Egyptian official’s negative response to the letter sent by him and some other Iranian scholars. “ this letter was not the first in its kind, since before that, a group of opposition members, who are under British support, had written a letter to Morsi, and called him for eschewing walking in the track of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, and to separate religion from the state,” he added. “Their call to secularism was much propagated by opposition media,” Velayati said.

Foreign Policy Advisor to the Supreme Leader asserted that “their act wanted to show that the supporters of Islamic Republic of Iran are reactionaries, and those sitting in London are intellectuals and oppositions.”

“we deemed it our religious duty as someone with academic career, to announce that Islamic Republic is a freedom-bestowing system, and that we have no other non-religious affiliations, and said to Egyptians that if you have these problems, you better go the track of this revolution, ‘Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful (Quran, 73:3),’ Velayati said, quoting a verse of Quran.

“Of course, many are among the revolutionaries of Egypt that have friendly relationship with Israel just as in Mubarak era, and it is natural that their response is negative, but we should say our word, and defend ourselves,” he asserted.
