Video- Loyalty to President Assad 900 times more than Loyalty to Morsi

774377_origBashar Assad has been losing one of his top loyalists every 5840 hours while Morsi has effectively lost one top loyalist every 6 hours of turmoil.
As turmoil erupted in Egypt, which is considered one of the main allies of the Syrian rebels and particularly Salafi rebels, the minds of the curious observers of the region could not avoid making a comparison between the crisis in Syria and the Egyptian crisis; however the two uproars have significant differences on various aspects and such a comparison between them could be invalid in certain cases.

Nevertheless reality is that the Egyptian and the Syrian governments are two political entities which based on ideas of the neorealists, have similar functions in the international arena. A comparison between the functions of the two governments can be interesting as there is a historical conflict between the Syrian Baath Party and the Muslim Brotherhood Movement and Moris is to some extent a Muslim Brotherhood representative.

Throughout 48 hours of turmoil in Egypt, contradictory news was spread about the resigning of the ministers of the cabinet, some even saying 11 ministers had resigned, however, resignation of 6 ministers, that is ministers of foreign affairs, finance, environment affairs, tourism, sports, legal affairs and parliamentary councils has been confirmed. Spokespersons for the Egyptian Prime Minister and the President have both resigned, too.

If we consider the Syrian crisis as 2 years old- while it is more than 2 years since it began- the total crisis has taken 17520 hours during which 3 of the Syrian top officials resigned; therefore Bashar Assad has lost a loyalist every 5840 hours. This is while Morsi lost 8 over 48 hours, meaning he has practically lost one senior official every 6 hours! Thus loyalty to Assad in his cabinet is approximately 973 times more than Moris’s; this figure also reveals that Assad has better management capabilities over his loyalists than Morsi does.

On the other hand, although some of the army men joined Syrian rebels, it is obvious that throughout more than 2 years of crisis, the Syrian army has been utterly loyal to President Assad while the Egyptian army issues ultimatums against the president and takes positions above its legal capabilities. The recent crisis in Egypt proved that Morsi has practically no role within the military and if one day the country is attacked by foreign forces, Morsi would be taken responsible for the territorial entirety of Egypt while he has no serious control over the army which is the means of protecting territorial entirety. Even more interesting than that is the fact that with such power and authoritarianism, Morsi has taken the position of “Jamal Abdesser” who was a military commander.

Control over the armed forces has different aspects. The army is the symbol of a country’s national sovereignty as without the armed forces, the borders as well as the security of a country could not be protected and if these two are not protected, sovereignty is effectively meaningless. After 2 years of tough crisis in Syria, Assad still has control over the sovereignty of the country while Morsi contradicted the symbol of the national sovereignty of Egypt in a period of only 48 hours.

Moreover, the trend of the aforementioned developments brings to light the fact that Assad has acted successfully in trying to maintain his popularity among the majority of the Syrian people while Morsi cannot be seen to have managed to sustain the same, at least up to this time.

To the comparison, the much higher intensity of the Syrian crisis should be added. The Syrian government has been under intense pressures from foreign powers while Morsi did not have to deal with such extra tensions. Syria has to confront the power of the Salafi terrorist cannibals while Salafis would not stand against Morsi and there is even a chance they would side with him. Furthermore Bashar Assad has to deal with a great deal of weapons delivered to the terrorists by foreign powers whereas Morsi is not encountered with such a predicament.

The roots of different methods of management by Morsi and Assad could probably be traced in their central ideas: the difference between “the resistance” and “the compromise” ideologies, the latter of which made Morsi unwilling to revise the Camp David treaty despite representing the Muslim Brotherhood.

This report does not claim that the figures and statistics above can clearly and distinctly explain the dissimilarities between the two governments as comparing two political entities requires a thorough study of multiple factors and causes; nonetheless, it can open a new window to the observers of the developments of the region through which they can observe and contemplate from a different perspective.
