Protesters chant ‘Down USA’ in Sydney rally against anti-Islam film

People have staged a protest outside the US consulate in the Australian city of Sydney, chanting ‘Down USA’ to condemn a US-made movie insulting Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

The protest, that is the latest in a wave of demonstrations held across the world against the blasphemous film, was held on Saturday when demonstrators, including women and children, marched through Sydney’s Hyde Park.

“We are sick and tired of everyone mocking our beloved prophet,” protester Houda Dib said, as the crowd of about 500 gathered outside the US consulate.

“They have no right to mock our prophet. We don’t go around mocking anyone’s religion.”

The angry protesters hurled bottles and shoes to express their anger over the movie while police used dogs and pepper spray to disperse them.

Several people were also arrested during the incident and at least four people were taken to hospital after clashes with police forces.

The anti-US protests were triggered on Tuesday after the sacrilegious film led to an attack on the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, where the US ambassador and three other Americans were killed.

The Muslim world is outraged at the US for the blasphemous video, which insults the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and depicts Islam as an oppressive religion.

Protests have also erupted in several other countries including Egypt, Iran, Libya, Tunisia, Sudan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan in response to the sacrilegious film.
