Fighting erupts between Lebanon army, Takfiri Terrorists near the Syrian border following a ceasefire collapse

Fresh fighting has erupted between the Lebanese army and foreign-sponsored ISIL Takfiri militants near the Syrian border following a ceasefire collapse.

According to a Lebanese security source on Wednesday, the clashes in the eastern border town of Arsal, situated 124 kilometers (77 miles) northeast of the capital, Beirut, broke out after an army position there was attacked by the militants.

Local media also reported that fighting between Lebanese army and Takfiri militants mainly concentrated in the areas of Ras al-Sarej and Wadi al-Rahyan.

The ceasefire had been announced to allow mediators to investigate the fate of missing Lebanese soldiers and to meet the humanitarian needs of civilians.

The army announced on Monday that 22 Lebanese soldiers were missing, possibly taken hostage, while a military source said 16 others had been killed in clashes.

The UN Security Council on Monday “expressed support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Internal Security Forces in their fight against terrorism.”

Violence erupted in eastern Lebanon on Saturday afternoon after soldiers arrested a Syrian man who the army said confessed to belonging to the militant group. Angered by the arrest, the Takfiri militants opened fire on army checkpoints and stormed a police station in a border area.

The Takfiri militants are said to have infiltrated into Lebanon from Syria’s mountainous al-Qalamoun region.
