Millions of Iranians and Muslims Worldwide Commemorate 36th Anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s Passing
Millions of Iranians representing diverse segments of society, along with numerous Muslims across the globe, have commemorated the 36th anniversary of the passing of Imam Khomeini, the founding figure of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A significant mourning ceremony took place at Imam Khomeini’s Mausoleum in the southern area of Tehran on Wednesday, where Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, addressed the large assembly.
This year’s commemorative event, conducted under the theme “Imam of Hope and Power,” drew thousands of pilgrims to the Imam Khomeini Mausoleum, reflecting a continued tradition. Comparable ceremonies were simultaneously hosted in numerous cities and towns nationwide.
Adherents of Islam and followers of Imam Khomeini conducted mourning ceremonies across several nations, with gatherings taking place in West Asia, Africa, and Europe.
On the anniversary’s eve, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that by adhering to the principles of Imam Khomeini, Iranians can ensure that no power will overcome the Islamic Republic or other Muslim communities.
Pezeshkian emphasized Imam Khomeini’s message advocating for independence, dignity, and resistance, asserting that the Islamic Republic’s opponents think they can obstruct the scientific progression and innovation of Muslim nations through intimidation and inducements. However, he stated that such efforts are ultimately futile.
The Iranian president stated that foreign adversaries and their domestic agents are investing billions and initiating propaganda efforts aimed at destabilizing national unity through the dissemination of rumors and falsehoods.
The United States, Israel, and their allies are accused of stirring discord and unrest in a bid to advance their alleged agendas. Nonetheless, these efforts are deemed unlikely to undermine the cohesion of the Iranian populace.
In a statement concerning Iran’s foreign policy, Pezeshkian emphasized that the Islamic Republic is dedicated to promoting peace and security and is not aiming to develop nuclear weapons.
He stated, “Those asserting that Iran is pursuing weapons of mass destruction are the same entities menacing Muslims in the region with such weaponry.” Furthermore, he emphasized, “No individual committed to consciousness and freedom” can overlook the overt human rights abuses perpetrated by the Israeli regime, allegedly backed by the US and European nations.
Imam Khomeini, a central figure in modern history, passed away at the age of 86 on June 3, 1989. Renowned for his leadership in the movement against Iran’s Pahlavi regime, he played a pivotal role in rallying mass protests against a significant U.S. ally.
Imam Khomeini endured years of exile in Iraq, Turkey, and France, during which he spearheaded a burgeoning grassroots movement that ultimately brought an end to millennia of monarchical rule in Iran.
The anniversary closely precedes another significant milestone on June 5, 1963, marking the day when Imam Khomeini initiated his first uprising against the monarchy with demonstrations taking place in Tehran and Qom.
