Millions of Worshippers Mark Ashura in Iraq’s Holy City of Karbala

Millions of worshippers marked the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (P) in the Holy City of Karbala, Iraq.

In addition to the locals, millions of mourners flock into Krabala from other Iraqi cities and abroad in order to mark the grief occasion at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (P) and that of His Brother Al-Abbas bin Ali (P).

Ashura refers to the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar when Muslims commemorate the murder of Imam Hussein bin Ali (P) and a large number of his family members and companions in Iraq’s Karbala at the hands of the torturous ruler Yazid bin Mu‘awiya and his army.
