Minister: Iran Eyes Improved Global Ranking in Science

Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami said that his country now ranks 16th in the world in the production of science and expects improvement in the new ranking.

“At present, Iran ranks 16th in the world in science, and possibly, Iran’s standing will improve in the new rating which will be released in future and we will ascend to stand the 15th,” Gholami told FNA on Tuesday.

He also added that Iran now stands atop the regional states in scientific field.

In relevant remarks last Wednesday, Gholami stressed his country’s rapid progress in different scientific fields despite pressures and sanctions.

“Iran’s scientific condition has certainly improved a lot compared with the period before the Islamic Revolution and the interesting point is that we have been able to rank 16th in the world under the hard conditions of sanctions and restrictions,” Gholami told FNA.

He added that progress and advancements in Iran, including setting up science and technology parks, growth centers and knowledge-based companies, have all taken place as the country has been faced with the harshest sanctions.
