More than a dozen individuals have lost their lives in clashes as violence escalates against Shia communities in Pakistan

In northwest Pakistan, renewed Takfiri violence has resulted in the deaths of at least 13 individuals, as sectarian conflict continues to target the Shia Muslim community.

A violent assault last week in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region along the Afghanistan border, targeting a passenger convoy en route from Parachinar to Peshawar, has incited significant public outcry and provoked clashes.

The recent assault by Takfiri militants on a convoy, resulting in the deaths of women and children, has heightened suspicions among tribal communities.

A local official in Kurram district on Saturday attributed the escalating tensions in the area to activities of Takfiri militants operating within the volatile tribal regions.

A government official reported that an additional 13 individuals, predominantly from the Shia community, have fallen victim to recent assaults over the past 48 hours. This development brings the cumulative death toll to 124 since the onset of the violence last week.

Previous assaults targeting Shia Muslims have been attributed to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to historical reports.

The Kurram district, situated to the west of Peshawar, serves as a gateway to Afghanistan’s eastern provinces of Paktia, Logar, and Nangarhar.

The Shia Muslim community in Pakistan has urged the government in Islamabad to swiftly address and halt the ongoing violence in the volatile northwestern regions and other insecure areas of the country.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Pakistan, as well as to the families mourning the victims of the recent attacks, in a letter released last Thursday.
