Three Syrian children and their father have been killed and 11 others injured after foreign-backed militants fired mortar shells at residential areas in the countryside of the capital Damascus.

On Sunday, several mortar shells fired by the militants landed on the areas including Kashkoul, Daf al-Sakher and al-Siuf Square in Jaramana in Damascus countryside, killing the children and their father, state news agency SANA reported.

Reports say that most of those injured were women and children.

On Saturday, six people were killed and five others injured after a mortar shell hit al-Ashrafiyeh district in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo.

Foreign-sponsored militants fired the shell that hit near a residential area, killing six children.

Last week, four first-grade students were wounded after a mortar shell fired by the militants landed on Aaisha al-Sidiqa school in al-Zahira neighborhood of Damascus.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in the violence.

The UN recently warned against the humanitarian situation in Syria, saying that over nine million people are in need of urgent aid due to the crisis in the Middle Eastern country.
