Some 71 percent of respondents to a recent opinion poll in Pakistan have favored Islamic law over Western democracy ahead of the upcoming elections.
The poll, conducted by the British Council between March 11 and 14, 2013, was based on interviews with 5,271 Pakistani adults and its results were released on April 3, 2013.

According to the survey, 28 percent of the respondents said they favored democracy and the remaining 1 percent had no idea.

The survey also revealed that some 94 percent of Pakistanis believed that their government was moving in the wrong direction in political terms and only 6 percent supported Islamabad’s political orientation.

The poll results clearly prove enthusiasm of Pakistani people toward the Islamic Sharia law which they prefer over the Western democracy.
