Lebanon- Berri, Qahwaji Top Assassination List as Security Dangers Escalate

Berri, Qahwaji Top Assassination List as Security Dangers Escalate

As the Lebanese government submitted its resignation, Lebanon has turned into a new political and security situation that is mainly characterized by void. Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri and Lebanese Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji are on the top of the assassination list as information drawn from western and Arab security services confirmed.
The foreign security services entrusted the derived information to the Lebanese security services that took the data seriously and began investigation.

These warnings come to confirm security information already reported to both Berri, Qahwaji, and one of the dignitaries months ago, in light of the recent worsening political and security developments. Security measures have been taken, at a high level, to avoid targeting the security of the country as a whole.

What makes these warnings more serious is the manner of approaching them by some political parties who try to minimize the importance of the provided data and to consider these threats as part of the political bazaar in the country in context of extending the  mandate of the parliament and the army leadership.
In both cases, the rising tension in Lebanon, which returned the specter of assassination to this country, would rebound strongly in the Lebanese arena, especially in light of the recent security chaos.

QahwajiThe irony that arouses suspicion among the political figures is that there is a trend of disregard for the security risks posed in Lebanon now in more than one issue:
1. The pivotal roles of Berri and Qahwaji in maintaining the political balance and the security stability turns their assassination to be extremely hazardous, especially in light of the local and foreign attempts to target this important functions for these two leaders.
2. The sectarian tension that resulted from a number of security violations may attract the takfiri militants to carry out attacks in Lebanon.
3. The vacancies in the security posts may have devastating effects on the local security situation, especially in case these posts are affected by the political interests of the different parties.
