Mukhtar Army claims attack on Camp Liberty in Iraq

kaffash20130618131452627The Iraq-based militant group known as the Mukhtar Army has claimed responsibility for a recent rocket attack on Camp Liberty in the Iraqi capital that killed two members of the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO).

Leader of the Mukhtar Army Wathiq al-Battat said on Monday that a total of 18 rockets were fired at the camp, vowing that his group would continue to attack the MKO members until they leave Iraq.

On June 15, Iraqi police sources reported that at least two MKO members were killed and more than 17 wounded after a number of mortars hit inside and near Camp Liberty in western Baghdad.

Battat further said, “We are giving them a 10-day deadline to leave; otherwise they will be attacked again.”

He also took credit for a previous attack on Camp Liberty that killed at least seven members of the MKO and injured more than 50 others on February 9.

Earlier this year, the Iraqi government transferred the fifth group of MKO terrorists from Camp New Iraq, formerly known as Camp Ashraf which is situated about 120 kilometers (74 miles) west of the border with Iran, to Camp Liberty.

The MKO is considered as a terrorist group in Iran since it has been behind many cases of bombings and assassinations against the Iranian officials and people.

The group also fought alongside the forces of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the Iraqi-imposed eight-year war on Iran in the 1980s.
