Muslim elite calls for serious pursuit of conference results

An official attending Tehran Muslim Unity Conference has said that the inter-faith conference in Tehran was effective and useful but holding conference to strengthen unity is not enough.

Dr. Khalid Al-Valid, chairman of Islamic University of Daka in Indonesia, said “Taking the Muslim world situation into consideration, holding such conference is necessary. The conference should not only be held in Tehran. ”

He said all Muslim countries should host inter-faith and unity conferences.

He also added that holding the conference is not enough and proximity should be put into action and all participants at the conference should shoulder a responsibility when the delegations return home at the end of the conference.

“The most important duty which should be carried out is that the guidelines provided at the conference should be followed up once the meeting ends.” the university dean said.

According to the Indonesian participant the conference only sheds light on the issues and the practical steps for realization of the results start only after the gathering wraps up.”

Indonesian participant noted, “At present we are witness to excommunicative and extremist moves both among the communities within the Muslim countries and from foreign countries and that cause more disunity among Muslims.”

Khalid Al-Valid also said, “ I have had a course at Qom Seminary where I met Ayatollah Taskhiri and knew his activities in the field of proximity.”

He praised the efforts of grand Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, former secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought saying,” I have seen his serious efforts for boosting proximity among different Islamic denominations.” And added, “He has good ties not only with Shia but also Sunni scholars and other religious leaders. In my idea Ayatollah Taskhiri is a symbol of Muslim proximity and a manifest of Islamic Unity.”
