Activists in Myanmar have pledged to keep up the pressure on the Naypyidaw government despite its heavy-handed crackdown on the student rallies demanding educational reforms in the country.

According to Press TV, Myanmarese student activists said Thursday that they would press ahead with their calls for the decentralization of the country’s education law, but the drive will pick up after the current school exam period.

Student leader, Moe Htet Nay said “We will not make any big movement during the exams…. But we might demand to meet with the government,” adding, “If they don’t accept, that is the choice they make.”
The current education law, which was ratified by the parliament in September, allocates responsibility for all decisions regarding education policies and curriculum to a body comprising largely of government ministers.

The law also bans students from forming unions and prohibits the use of local languages in instruction in ethnic states.
