AEOI Spokesman- Bushehr N. Power Plant Resumes OperationSpokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi announced on Sunday that Bushehr nuclear power plant has resumed work after a short halt for refueling and maintenance operations.

“The power plant which had been turned off for two and a half months for recharging one third of its fuel and doing first periodic maintenance and repairs (operations) came back into operation again yesterday (May 31),” Kamalvandi told FNA on Sunday.

He also said that the power plant will join the national grid in the next few days after the reactor’s core is warmed up.

The Islamic Republic signed the Bushehr contract with Russia in 1995 and the nuclear power plant reached its full capacity by August 2012. It is located about 18 kilometers South of the provincial capital.

Senior official at the AEOI have always underlined that Bushehr enjoys a maximum level of safety.

Late last September, Iranian experts received the temporary control of the unit of the Bushehr power plant.

The full (everlasting) operational control of the plant will be delivered to Iran after a two-year-warranty or 7,000 hours of operation.

A senior Iranian diplomat announced in March that Tehran is negotiating with Moscow on the construction and development of the new phases of Bushehr nuclear power plant, adding that the two sides planned to sign a relevant deal soon in future.

“Negotiations are underway between Iranian and Russian officials, including the officials of Rosatom company, on the construction of new phases for the Bushehr nuclear power plant,” Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee told reporters in Moscow.

The Iranian ambassador underlined that the contract for the development of these new phases will be signed in the first half of 2014.

In December, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced that Iran has plans to generate more electricity through the nuclear energy in the coming years by building a second nuclear power plant in Bushehr.

Head of the AEOI Ali Akbar Salehi has on different occasions announced that Iran is ready to continue its mutual cooperation with Russia in peaceful nuclear energy.
